ROBINSON MANEUVER TRAINING CENTER, Arkansas – Eighteen teams from the National Guard, Army Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve, and teams from Canada, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom compete in the 28th Armed Forces Skill at Arms Meeting Rifle and Pistol Matches April 7 through 12, 2019, at the National Guard Marksmanship Training Center near North Little Rock, Arkansas.

The AFSAM consisted of 19 marksmanship matches completed over the six days of competition.

“We have shooters here from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Netherlands and you all represent the best shooters from each of these countries,” said the Director of the Arkansas National Guard Joint Staff, Brig. Gen. Kevin Vines, “All our nations strive to increase lethality in order to ensure our nations’ security and this event advances that effort.”

The AFSAM promotes friendly competition and the exchange of information and skills amongst shooters in order to improve the overall skills of the marksmen involved.

“These meetings provide competitors the chance to familiarize themselves with a host of nation’s weapons, techniques, tactics, and procedures,” said Brig. Gen. Kevin Vines “It allows shooters to hone their skills. I challenge you use your unique skills and expertise to improve the readiness, effectiveness, and lethality.”

Major Lance Rosie, a member of the British Army Reserve Operations Shooting Team from the United Kingdom says that he enjoyed the chance to come to this competition to shoot.

Competitors bring their service issued carbines and pistols to the AFSAM and showcase their respective skills.

The Armed Forces Skills at Arms Meeting was established in 1991 to promote marksmanship training and competition between United States military forces and allied nations. The events of the AFSAM are run at the same time as the Winston P. Wilson Championship and the two competitions incorporate many of the same courses of fire.
