NATIONAL GUARD SNIPER COMPETITION

The National Guard Sniper Championship (NGSC), originally called the Inter-Service Sniper Sustainment Training Exercise (ISSTE), was developed to serve as a competition which evaluates sniper sustainment programs, validates sniper marksmanship and field-craft skills, and allows qualified snipers to exchange techniques and tactics from different units and backgrounds.

This competition is designed to test, evaluate, and facilitate the development of training and sustainment programs among military snipers of all services. This competition was created with the intent to serve as much a sniper training opportunity as a competition.

NGSC began in 2007 when the command directed Senior NCOs from the NGMTC Sniper School to draft a feasibility study for NGMTC to stand up an inter-service sniper competition. In the spring of 2008 the NGMTC Marksmanship Training Branch was given the approval to plan and execute the inaugural ISSTE at Ft. Chaffee, AR.

The inaugural NGSC had 12 teams participate representing the Active Duty Army, Army National Guard, Air National Guard, Active Duty Air Force, Active Duty and National Guard Special Forces, and the 75th Ranger Regiment.

NGSC is hosted by the NGMTC annually at Robinson Maneuver Training Center, North Little Rock, Arkansas.
